ScarWork™ for C-Section and Surgical Scar Recovery
Gentle, trauma-informed therapy to support healing, mobility, and comfort.
ScarWork is a gentle hands-on therapy that supports recovery after C-sections, pelvic surgeries, abdominal surgeries, and other injuries or operations. Whether your scar is six weeks old or decades old, treatment can help improve tissue health, ease tightness and sensitivity, and support a greater sense of comfort and connection in your body.
What is ScarWork?
ScarWork is a specialized manual therapy that works with scar tissue after surgery or injury. It is a gentle and holistic approach that supports healing in the skin, fascia, and deeper layers of tissue, including adhesions that may affect movement and comfort.
Feeling discomfort or disconnection around your scar?
Many people are told their scar is “healed” once it closes, but scar tissue can continue to affect your body long after surgery, especially after C-sections and pelvic procedures. Symptoms are often linked to scar tissue and adhesions beneath the surface.
Ongoing tightness or pulling
You may feel restriction, pulling, or tension around your scar or in your abdomen, hips, or lower back, especially when moving, stretching, or standing upright.
Numbness, sensitivity, or strange sensations
Scar areas can feel numb, overly sensitive, or disconnected. You might notice tingling, heaviness, or a lack of sensation that hasn’t improved over time.
Pain or discomfort that doesn’t fully resolve
This can show up as pelvic discomfort, painful periods, pain during sex, or general discomfort in the lower body that doesn’t seem directly linked, but often is.
Support ongoing tension and discomfort with massage therapy
If you’re experiencing tightness, pain, or restriction around your scar or in surrounding areas like your hips, back, or abdomen, therapeutic massage can help release tension and support your recovery alongside ScarWork.
How ScarWork can help
ScarWork works beneath the surface to support how your scar feels, moves, and functions, helping your body release tension and restore balance over time.

- Improved Mobility and Less Restriction: Gently releases tightness and adhesions so your body can move without pulling or discomfort.
- Reduced Pain and Sensitivity: Helps decrease tenderness, discomfort, and hypersensitivity around the scar and surrounding areas.
- Restored Sensation and Connection: Supports improved nerve communication, helping reduce numbness in the area.
- Healthier Scar Tissue: Improves tissue quality, softness, and overall function, changing how the scar feels in your body.
- Whole-Body Relief: By addressing deeper restrictions, ScarWork can ease related tension in the hips, back, abdomen, and pelvic area.

FAQs
How soon after surgery can I book ScarWork?
ScarWork is usually appropriate from six weeks post-op once the scar is fully closed and no longer open, bleeding, or weeping.
Can ScarWork help with adhesions?
Yes. ScarWork is designed to support all layers of scar tissue, including adhesions, which may contribute to restriction, discomfort, and altered movement patterns.
Can ScarWork help with old scars?
Yes. ScarWork can be effective for mature scars that are years old or even decades old. Many people seek treatment for older scars when they still have numbness, tightness, discomfort, or restricted mobility.
Can ScarWork help with laparoscopic scars?
Yes. Even very small laparoscopic scars can have deeper scar tissue beneath the surface. Treatment can include both the visible scar sites and the wider abdominal area.
How many ScarWork sessions will I need?
This depends on the age and condition of the scar, your symptoms, your goals, and how your body responds to treatment. A series of 4 to 8 sessions is often recommended, with progress commonly reviewed after the fourth session.
What if I have birth trauma, medical trauma, or difficulty receiving touch?
This is very common. ScarWork is offered through a trauma-informed, consent-led approach. Treatment can begin slowly, and direct work on the scar does not have to happen during the first session. The process is adapted to support safety and regulation in your nervous system.
